Aruba Bank is proud to announce our sponsorship of Aruba Birdlife Conservation’s Shoco Conservation Project, a vital initiative aimed at protecting and preserving the Shoco (Athene cunicularia arubensis), Aruba’s national symbol. This sponsorship reflects our continued commitment to the sustainability of our island’s natural environment and the protection of its unique wildlife.
The Shoco population, with only an estimated 200 pairs remaining, faces significant threats due to habitat loss and the destruction of nests. Since 2019, Aruba Birdlife Conservation has been actively working to mitigate these challenges by installing artificial burrows, providing safe nesting sites for the Shoco. These efforts are already showing encouraging results, and with ongoing support, the goal is to install 500 burrows in the coming years.
Aruba Bank is honored to support this crucial conservation project, which will directly contribute to safeguarding the future of Aruba’s Shoco population. As a bank deeply rooted in the Aruban community, we believe in supporting initiatives that ensure a sustainable future for both our people and our natural heritage.
We are excited to be part of this journey and look forward to seeing the positive impact of this project in the years to come. Together, we can help secure a future where Aruba’s Shoco thrives.
