Art is an essential curriculum in the weekly calendar of activities of clients of the Endorsement section at Respaldo Aruba, a center for mental health in Aruba.

Respaldo counts on the support of several professionals who dedicate themselves to fostering personal progress through art. Lucia Hoek and Miriam Arends have conducted efforts such as artwork on canvas, centerpieces, backdrops, art on clothing, cactuses made from foamies, art with fruit, wall decoration, projects made from recyclable materials, and much more.

Aruba Bank supported the continued development of the clients of the institution this week through the donation of art supplies for an entire year. In addition, bank employees provided a two-day painting workshop to a group of six (6) resident clients.

During the workshop, Aruba Bank representative, Roxanne Croes, guided the participants with basic acrylic painting techniques on canvas. The theme of the workshop, “Aruba” was chosen in connection with the celebration of Aruba’s 45th National Anthem and Flag Day celebration, on March 18th, 2021.

Dr. van Gaalen, Director of the institution, expressed that the transparency from inside the institution to the outside world and vice versa is very important. According to him, there should not exist a fundamental difference between people with or without a mental disorder. Dr. Van Gaalen also emphasized the important role art plays in treating clients with stress and other mental problems.

Aruba Bank is happy and thankful to have had the opportunity to create a beautiful connection with the creative team and clients of Respaldo Aruba.
