The Central Bank of Aruba is ready to launch instant payments in Aruba

The Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) has introduced the new Instant Payments Clearing and Settlement Mechanism (IP CSM). This implementation entails replacing the current CBA clearing and settlement system (Goldnet), and switching from traditional batch payment processing to a new instant payments infrastructure in January 2020.

The introduction of the new IP CSM, named I-Pago, is an important step towards innovating the payment infrastructure of Aruba. Using I-Pago, Aruban florin payments between banks will be processed instantly, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. With this step, the Aruban payment infrastructure is raised to a level in line with the prevailing international best practices, enhancing its efficiency, reliability, and security.

I-Pago instant payments are characterized by the following features:

  • Aruban florin transfers between accounts at different banks
  • 24/7/365 availability and multi-channel initiation
  • Clearing & settlement within seconds
  • Payment is final, with immediate confirmation to payer and payee
  • Immediate access to funds

Having these features available, I-Pago lays a solid foundation to accommodate new developments in the payments industry, and allows participants to further innovate and provide new payment solutions to the Aruban community. To learn more about I-Pago the website: https://www.cbaruba.org/ipago
